What is Kinesio Taping?

Kinesio Taping is a fantastic form of adjunctive therapy used to decrease healing time and help improve performance.  It has a unique elastic quality that can be used to either scrunch up the skin to promote healing of injured joints and muscles or it can pull and support certain muscle groups to help elevate their performance.

How Common is Kinesio Taping Therapy?

Kinesio taping is a fast growing therapy among healthcare practitioners, especially physical therapists and progressive or evidence-based chiropractors.  One of the few chiropractors in Montgomery County is a chiropractor in Olney, MD named Dr. Bobby Mozafari.  So, if you’re in pain or want to maximize your performance, stop by Integrated Sport, Spine & Rehab and feel the benefits of kinesio tape for yourself!

What is Kinesio Taping Used For?

Kinesio taping can be used for many different applications.  Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just for elite athletes at the Olympics.  Kinesio tape can be used on patients who have been in car accidents, are sore from carrying a heavy backpack all day long, have a sore neck or back from working in front of a computer, achy from carrying around a pregnant belly, or even have an ankle sprain with bruising and swelling.

How Long Do I Have to Wear It?

Although it may stick to the skin extremely well, it typically doesn’t stick for any longer than 4 or 6 days, depending on skin type.  It is waterproof, so you can wear it in the shower, bath, or pool.  We recommend you keep it on as long as possible until it starts to come off, at which point you may need another application based on the issue you’re having.  However, after the condition has improved or the sporting event has passed, you may not need to wear it anymore.  As mentioned above, it’s simply an adjunctive therapy for treatment of your condition.

Do the Colors Mean Anything?
